Soil Health Presentation: Microorganisms in Mission Garden Soil
by Mery Touceda-Suárez, Ph.D.
Friday March 15, 2024, 11am - 12:30pm
At Mission Garden’s Event Ramada
This event is free. All gifts are appreciated.—they help the garden grow.
All are invited to a discussion about the role of microbes in soil health, the soil food web, and a closer look on the soil microorganisms that help Mission Garden grow.
Mery Touceda-Suárez is a 5th year PhD student at the Department of Environmental Science at the UofA. Her research focuses on understanding the effect of human activities such as agriculture and urbanization on soil microbial communities. To do so she uses computational tools to analyze the patterns in sequences of DNA from the soil microbes. When not in front of the computer she can be found biking around town, reading, swimming or finding a new art project to dive into.
Mery recently co-authored a paper based on research at Mission Garden (co-authors included Dena Cowan and Emily Rockey.)
Please reach out to Abby Rhinehart, Mission Garden Event & Education Coordinator at abby@missiongarden.org for additional information.
