Olive Workshop
Saturday August 21, 8:30 - 10:00am (donations accepted for this class)
Don’t fear the OLIVE!
Volunteers and the public are invited to this class in which we will share some of the many and ever evolving ways of picking curing and enjoying this noble fruit abounding in our fair city. First, Dena Cowan will talk about the history of olives and the kinds of olives we grow at Mission Garden. Dena is our Garden Curator and Mission Garden's principal researcher and writer. Then Timothy Rockey will share methods, recipes, techniques, and best of all olive practices! Methods and samples will include water curing, cracked, brine cured, dried and hybrid methods of all of these. Attendees can seek out, pick and cure their very own olives. Timothy Rockey has been picking and finding ways to cure thousands of delicious olives over several years of home curing. Bring your own ideas, experiences and questions and let’s see what comes from all our efforts together. Volunteers, come get prepared to help us harvest Mission Garden's olives!
