Archaeology Day
Every Fourth Saturday of the month September through April (except December).
FREE with $5 suggested donation at the Gate.
On our monthly (fourth Saturday) Archaeology Day representatives of Tucson's archaeology community come to Mission Garden to teach practical hands-on skills. Allen Denoyer of Archaeology Southwest will be doing their Hands-on Archaeology program. It allows kids of all ages to try out fascinating ancient technologies. It might be etching shell, or painting with natural pigments, or throwing spears with atl-atls.
This year Old Pueblo Archaeology Center will also be represented on these fourth Saturday events, also presenting interactive programs about things like pinch pots, pendants, cordage, and petroglyphs. We’re so glad to add OPAC to this season’s Archaeology Days programs!
John Palacio, a local rock art expert, will be joining this event as well. He does amazing rock art reproductions in an attempt to promote conservation of historic sites with petroglyphs and pictographs.
