Traditional O’odham Agriculture
Every third Saturday of the month
At Mission Garden’s Placita (near the kitchen)
This event is FREE. All monetary gifts are appreciated
This month’s Traditional O'odham Agriculture will feature:
the preparation to plant winter peas and wheat,
the I'itoi's onions planted recently,
tepary beans,
harvesting and cleaning sorghum grain,
and a seasonally appropriate tasting.
Maegan Lopez and Sterling Johnson continue this new Mission Garden tradition of talks and demonstrations about O'odham Agriculture. They talk about traditions associated with Native American crops like corn, beans and squash, and how crops brought by Europeans were integrated into O'odham agriculture. This is a great collaboration between Mission Garden and Ajo Center for Sustainable Agriculture.
