Program of activities hosted by Mission Garden in collaboration with Ajo Center for Sustainable Agriculture

Saturday May 7th 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, on the occasion of the Pueblos del Maiz celebration in conjunction with Tucson City of Gastronomy

All activities are informal and educational in nature, in the spirit of fostering a learning community of cultural exchange

8:00 am - 10:00 am - Planting Tohono O’odham 60-day corn in the O’odham Garden at

Mission Garden. Led by Maegan Lopez of Mission Garden and Sterling Johnson of Ajo Center for Sustainable Agriculture

10:00 am - 11:00 am - Traditional methods of harvesting, roasting and grinding corn to

prepare ga’iwsa or chicos, traditional dishes featuring roasted corn. Led by Mission

Garden and Ajo CSA

11:00 am - 12:00 pm - Ga’iwsa and chicos cooking demo and tastings. Led by Ajo Center for Sustainable Agriculture chef and Mission Garden staff and volunteers.
