Jacobo Mendoza Exhibit, Demonstration, and Sale

Saturday March 18, 2023, 10am-noon
Mission Garden, at Event Ramada (exhibit and sale) and Placita (demonstration)
Free, with suggested donation at the garden gate

Join us for an exhibit and sale of amazing weavings from Oaxaca made by renowned weaver Jacobo Mendoza. Jacobo and his family have been making tapetes (rugs) in the fabled weaving village of Teotitlan de Valle for generations. Inspired by pre-Hispanic buildings and contemporary designs, he is an award winning weaver both in Mexico and abroad.

Jacobo’s work has been featured at the Santa Fe International Folk Art Festival and he is recognized as one of Mexico’s leading weavers exclusively using natural dyes and incorporating vibrant colors with wool, silk, merino and alpaca.  His much anticipated exhibition will demonstrate the use of natural dyes using among others, cochineal and plants he has discovered to create exquisite colors. Jacobo is bringing rugs to sell and materials to demonstrate his craft.

Jacobo’s workshop in Teotitlan de Valle has been a regular stop on Mission Garden’s many tours to Oaxaca. His wife Maria Louisa and his children, Jacobito and Silvia are also talented weavers who participate in those demonstrations.
