Video: Upcoming Planting of the African-American Garden

After months of planning and collaboration with our African American volunteers, Mission Garden will plant the first seeds of the African-American garden on March 20, 2021. The plants and vegetables in the garden are ingredients that are historically significant to African-American culture in Tucson, and across the United States. Red watermelon, okra, collards, fish pepper, Cherokee purple tomato, basil, and cowpeas are among the crops. To commemorate the garden, we will be decorating a bottle tree, a typical decorative element in African-American gardens.
